The Nike ‘Sisterhood Pack’ is a celebration of the power of sisterhood and #ProtectingYourEnergy for 2020. The campaign celebrates positive energy, championing the importance of building a supportive community during these challenging times and most importantly – practicing self-care.

Our OFFICE <3 Nike community created a virtual sharing circle via Zoom with @shelf.help owner Toni Jones. Toni led the discussion on the power in togetherness, exercising self-care and the mantra of being true to yourself and your own style whilst inspiring others.

Leading with kindness and listening to each other without judgement, this amazing group of women shared how they practice protecting their energy and what intentions they wish to set out for the month ahead. The workshop created a safe space to support one another throughout this new journey and positively holding each other accountable in reaching their goals.

We caught up with the girls later to see how they’re protecting their energy, and styling their ‘Sisterhood Pack’ shoes…

How do you best express yourself?

I love to express myself through my style. Creating and putting together new outfits is so much fun! I love coming up with new ideas, colour combinations and just experimenting with fashion in general.

When do you feel most confident?

I feel most confident when I am around people I am comfortable with. I feel like I can truly be myself in those situations. I also feel confident when I push myself to do something that scares me or is a challenge, whether that may be taking an improv class or speaking in front of a group of people. Taking time to improve my physical and mental strength is also a great source of confidence for me.

What does self-love mean to you?

For me, self-love is speaking to yourself kindly and giving yourself the same patience and respect that you would give to your best friend. Taking time to do things that better yourself is so important – like regular exercise, meditation and eating healthy. I also think that believing in yourself is another important part of self-love. Doing things that are challenging or out of your comfort zone can give you such an amazing feeling of achievement.

How do you protect your energy?

I protect my energy by taking time to recharge and spend time on things that I enjoy doing whether that may be reading a good book or painting. I also surround myself with positive energy.

How do you best express yourself?

I best express myself through my creative passions, I love fashion and photography and feel like I’m being most expressive when I get to put outfits together or take photos on my walks. I also love to style others and put together visions that I have created in my head.

When do you feel most confident?

I feel most confident when I’m able to freely express myself and my style even when I’m interacting with those in my profession, I feel like my style is an extension of self and gives me a boost. It an extra layer to who I am.

What does self-love mean to you? How do you protect your energy?

Self-love to me is accepting who I am despite my flaws, celebrating my blackness and paying attention to my needs. Self-love is learning when to slow down and take the pressure off. I protect my energy by only consuming things that I feel are adding to my growth, I have learnt to set healthy boundaries and unlearn some of the negative habits!

How do you best express yourself?

I express myself through my outfits, hair styles and makeup. I have so many different styles so my outfits can be very different and really reflect my mood. I love trying new looks and playing around with makeup and hairstyles!

When do you feel most confident?

I feel most confident when I’m in a good routine with fitness and on a day-to-day level I feel most confident when I’m wearing a favourite outfit. This is usually something quite chilled and comfortable whilst also showing off my style – slouchy jeans, trainers and a crop top are my go-to.

What does self-love mean to you?

To me it means putting myself first, knowing my self-worth, giving myself a break when my initial reaction might be to give myself a hard time about something. Being comfortable and happy being me.

How do you protect your energy?

I try to stay as positive as possible and always remind myself that everything happens for a reason. I also like to surround myself with like-minded people who give off positive energy and who have a similar vibe.

How do you best express yourself? 

I love to dance to music, I get so much freedom from dancing. This could be anywhere from my bedroom, to hearing music in a shop. I think it’s because I’ve grown up around music. I love the way sound makes me feel so free and liberated. I could be in the worst mood and all it takes is music and dancing to make me feel good. During lockdown, I spent a lot of my time playing all kinds of music, dancing and having a good time in my room. I couldn’t imagine my life without it.

When do you feel most confident? 

I’d say I feel most confident when I’m on my own, doing the things I enjoy and living for myself unapologetically. It sounds so cliché but sometimes as human beings it takes blocking out other people’s opinions and just doing you. My confidence comes when I’m making decisions that serve me, living by my own standards and of course having a good hair day and fresh kicks 🙂

What does self-love mean to you? How do you protect your energy? 

Self-love for me, is being able to love myself in the same way, if not more than I love others. It’s being kind to myself and exercising self-compassion whenever I need it. It’s definitely not a linear journey, it’s an on-going process. It’s also doing things that I enjoy and need to do in order to maintain that love. This can be physical things such as self-care Sundays where I’d plan my week and have a little pamper session or when I wash and deep condition my hair. It might be treating myself to a new pair of trainers, drinking water, trying new activities (I recently started Pilates), dancing around to music, eating healthily and aiming to be consistent with exercise. Another important aspect of self-care for me is investing in my mind as well, feeding my mind and soul with positive sources. I try to journal my thoughts and feelings each day, and write down what I’m grateful for. I have also learnt to give my body the rest it deserves, taking time out is so important.

How do you best express yourself? 

I best express myself through my style and vision. I love creating content – it’s a moment for me to be free, create and also push myself in ways I feel like I’ve been limited by previously.

When do you feel most confident? 

I feel most confident after a workout, getting dressed everyday with intention or when I step out of my comfort zone and push through barriers with my work.

What does self-love mean to you? How do you protect your energy?

Self-love to me is a mind-set – it’s a journey to appreciate what you see and know is you and your own. Protecting my energy has been a journey and I’m still working it out. I am such a communicator so for me to protect my energy is to remove access to communication as a way of conserving my peace, my intellect and my spirit. I also like having a personal space which acts as a sanctuary and boundary.
